The Franklin wrestling team competed in the Shamrock Duals last Saturday, March 1st, at Westfield. The team participated in the tournament with hopes of bringing home a championship title.
The Duals this Saturday brought together several teams such as Noblesville East, Hamilton, Brownsburg East, Avon South, and Westfield, each competing for the champion title in the tournament. Franklin wrestlers showcased their skills and mentality, taking on strong opponents in a series of matches.
“Our team gave it everything we had on the mat, and it was a great experience competing against tough opponents,” said Pierce Parker One Of The Franklin Junior High Wrestlers.
“As the team coach, I can say all the wrestlers played a key role in motivating each other. Especially when we were down, they all came together, found out what their job was, and ran through them,” said Tyre Shelton.
The competition was fierce, especially against Noblesville, one of the hardest teams we’ve faced all season, with each match pushing the wrestlers to their limits. The Franklin athletes demonstrated what they can do when their backs are against the wall, showing skill and determination, making every match a hard-fought battle.
According to Coach Kerns, the team Assistant coach, “They showed some of the best wrestling I’ve seen in a while. It’s like they just changed gears and went into overdrive.” Really, the FCJH athletes are a force to be reckoned with.
“This tournament was a great test of our strength and strategy, and it helped us see where we need to improve,” said Westfield head coach Phil Smith.
Coach Tyre Shelton said , ” I have been relentless in training and preparing the wrestlers for high-level competition, guiding them toward their goal of winning a championship”.
The team put in weeks of preparation for their conference tournament happening in less than a week, and their hard work will reflect the effort they have put in this season. One wrestler mentioned that the experience “helped us grow as a team” and provided valuable lessons for future matches, which could help us bring home a championship.
